Curb Spring Allergies With Better Indoor Air Quality

With spring comes a host of molds, pollens and airborne viruses. When these get indoors, they can be a nightmare for someone with allergies. The EPA has put together a guide on problems associated with poor indoor air quality. In most homes, the indoor air quality is worse than the air outdoors. There are a host of solutions, though. Many air cleaners on the market that can make a world of difference in your home’s air quality.

Here are some options.

  • High Energy Particulate Air (HEPA) filters use a complicated filtering technique designed to remove even the smallest of particles. The filters have a random network of holes that allow air through while capturing microorganisms.
  • Electronic air cleaners ionize the air passing through them and then use charged plates to attract and collect particles on the other side. These can get many particles out of the air, including those that cause allergic reactions, but some can also create ozone, a mild lung irritant.
  • Some air filters use ultraviolet light to remove molds and viruses.

Most problems with indoor air quality are preventable. It is important to keep your house at the proper humidity. If it is too high, mold begins to grow. If it’s too dry, there are some viruses that can thrive. Indoor air quality is always important, but it can mean different things in different homes.
