What Your HVAC Contractor’s ACCA Membership Means to You

What Your HVAC Contractor's ACCA Membership Means to YouDue to our semi-arid climate and frequent summer temperatures in the 90s, it’s especially critical for homeowners in the Fresno area that their air conditioning system operates at peak efficiency. Yet, over half of homeowners postpone scheduling air conditioner service because they don’t know whom to trust.

Certification by NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certainly indicates a contractor is a skilled technician; however, membership in the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) ensures that the contractor also abides by its definition of a quality contractor.

The non-profit organization, incorporated over 40 years ago, focuses on promoting energy efficiency and comfortable, healthy indoor environments. It defines a quality contractor as one who:

Offers superior customer service. A technician with ACCA membership has agreed to perform service at your convenience in a courteous yet efficient and reliable manner. He or she will listen to your specific needs, or ask questions to detect any specific problems you need addressing. After the service is performed, the technician will offer instruction regarding how to maintain and maximize the life of your equipment, as well as preventative maintenance.

Adheres to ethical business practices. To qualify for ACCA membership, a contractor agrees to carry appropriate business insurance and workers’ compensation, as well as to stay informed and comply with all state or local codes and regulations, and to honor warranty terms in full.

Cares about the environment. Besides assistance with your indoor air quality needs, a contractor with ACCA membership should follow the proper procedures necessary to recover, reclaim, recycle and dispose of used refrigerant in the environmentally safest manner possible.

Stays technologically up to date. An ACCA technician is at the forefront of the latest technological advancements and design procedures, and can perform a Manual J load calculation, if necessary. Besides expertise at servicing existing systems, a technician with ACCA membership should be able to custom design the most efficient replacement for your specific needs.
