Why Is My AC Costing So Much to Run This Season?

If you have been in your home for a few years at this point, then you probably have a rough idea of just how much you spend in order to cool it during the summer season. It can get pretty warm in this part of the country during the summer months, and you really need your AC to operate as efficiently as it does effectively. If you’ve noticed, now that you’re running your AC a bit more regularly, that your energy costs are really spiking, there may be a problem with your system or with your home that is causing your AC in Fresno, CA to operate at reduced efficiency levels. Here are just a few examples of problems that can lead to such issues.

Are Your Air Filters Clogged?

If you let your AC maintenance technician change your air filters, but you are not doing so in the months between your maintenance service appointments, then it is possible that your efficiency issues are stemming from problems with dirty air filters. When your air filters are clogged up, after all, your system is not going to be able to distribute conditioned air throughout your home in as efficient a manner as possible. Changing your air filters as recommended is a must.

Is Your Insulation Adequate?

You cannot forget that your insulation plays an important role in your home all year long. Yes, it serves to keep heat in your home during the winter season. It also serves to prevent unwanted heat from infiltrating your home during the summer months, though. If you don’t have sufficient insulation in your home, heat can make its way through your thermal envelope, forcing your AC to work harder than it should have to.

How’s Your Ductwork Doing?

If you use a ducted forced air system in order to distribute conditioned air throughout your home, you are putting a lot of faith in your ductwork. If that ductwork is compromised, then you are not going to be able to distribute conditioned air throughout your home in as effective or efficient a manner as possible. Leaky air ducts displace conditioned air, leaving your AC to strive harder for even cooling throughout your home.
