They provide many benefits over forced-air systems that rely on ductwork to deliver conditioned air.
Ductless mini-splits are comprised of just a few different parts: a single outdoor compressor, up to four indoor air handlers and a conduit that sends conditioned air from outside to inside. Since there is no actual ductwork that the air has to travel through, none of it is lost on its way to its destination, making them highly efficient.
Since you use separate thermostats to independently control each air handler, you have increased control over each living space’s temperature. You can change the room you’re in to whatever temperature you like without worrying about disturbing anyone else.
Mini-split systems also can help you reduce your energy usage. By turning them off when the room is empty, you’ll only be paying when they are in use, not paying to keep an unoccupied area comfortable. Many units even come with remote controls that make it even easier to switch them on and off.
Since there are so few parts in a ductless mini-split system, they are easy to install. You just need a 3-inch hole drilled into the wall of your living space for the conduit to pass through. Once installed, you can hang the air handler from the walls or ceiling or just put it on the floor.
