Is it Time For a New Air Conditioner?

electric-fanReplacing an air conditioning system that has served your home and kept you cool for years on end isn’t a pleasant, nor a cheap, experience. An air conditioning replacement in Madera is no small job either– it requires a professional technician with the right training and experience to get the job done right.

The first step before you dive into this process though is to figure out if you need an AC replacement to begin with. You don’t want to toss out a system that still has a good several years to go before it is retired! To help, we’ve provided some different indicators to watch for that will let you know if and when you need to replace your air conditioner.

Is Your AC Ready to Retire?

These are some of the different signs to watch for that will let you know it is time to start looking for a replacement for your air conditioning unit.

  • Your system is too old. Age may be just a number but in this instance, it is one that counts! Modern AC units are built to last a minimum of 10 years though most will make it up to 15 total years of operation. If your unit is edging towards the age when it could qualify for a driver’s license, it means you need to start hunting for a replacement.
  • Energy bills have sky-rocketed. An air conditioner that is struggling to do its job because of failing parts or simply because it isn’t up to the job anymore, is going to suck up a lot of extra energy to try to keep you cool. While some fluctuation in energy use will happen, a big hike in your monthly dues isn’t normal and is likely the sign of a big problem.
  • Repairs are frequent and expensive. It is impossible to have an air conditioner that never needs repairs, but that doesn’t mean you should be calling for a fix on the regular. If you are noticing that you need repairs more than once every couple of years, it is a sign your system is failing. Along with that, if you encounter expensive repairs (costing the same as half or more of the price of a new system) you should also look int your options for a replacement.
  • You AC just can’t cool things off. An air conditioner that isn’t able to cool your house off no matter how much it runs isn’t one worth keeping. Don’t sweat your way through summer–replace your old unit with one that works!
